WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REFORMER AND MATWORK?
REFORMER CLASSES
Reformer classes are group style classes run with a maximum of 5 people on the Pilates reformer machines. are great option for those wanting to perform Pilates with the added challenge of resistance beyond the body. These classes focus on alignment, flow and strengthening the body as a whole.
MATWORK CLASSES
Matwork classes are also group style classes, run on mats and using all of the small equipment including fit balls, rollers and magic circles. Mat classes have a maximum of 10 people.
HOW LONG DO CLASSES GO FOR?
Most of our group classes run for 45 minutes. There are some classes (Buff Bones, ‘plus’) that are 60 minutes and sometimes we offer one off specialty classes that can run for either 45 or 60 minutes.
HOW DO I START CLASSES?
All clients wishing to join group classes, need to begin in an Introductory class. Introductory classes run for the whole term but you can start at any time during the term. Introductory classes gives a solid foundation into the Pilates method. We have both reformer and a matwork Introductory classes.
DO I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE NEW TERM TO START TO SIGN UP?
Not at all! Our classes run in terms, generally 6 or 8 weeks long. Start when you are ready, if it’s partway through the term, you can start the new term in Introductory classes and move to Level 2 when you are ready!
WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT LEVELS AND WHEN CAN I MOVE UP?
Following the Introductory term, everyone then moves into the Level 2 and so on. As you advance, you move to Level 3, and possibly even Level 4. Moving up levels depends on many factors, including general fitness, other experience (ie dance or gymnastics), injury and frequency of Pilates training. As we change our class plans every term, it is not necessary to change levels to keep fresh with your workout and keep challenging your body.
Most importantly, it’s about doing quality Pilates training – not just about moving up the levels.
Generally your instructor will suggest moving up when you are ready, but please discuss this with them if it’s something you feel you need.
WHAT DO I WEAR?
Just wear comfortable workout clothes. We do train without shoes, so bring socks, or we have sanitiser in studio for you to use on bare feet.
DO I NEED TO BRING MY OWN MAT?
No you don’t, we provide all the equipment and mats for you.
